Dress for Success
The mission of Dress for Success is to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.
We held our first Dress For Success clothing drive in 2010 in conjunction with Austin Fashion Week. It was such a huge success, over 2,000 pieces collected, that we decided to make it a year-round partnership. You can drop off clothing for this organization at any of our eight locations.
Please donate women’s clean, professional clothing including suits, blouses, slacks, jackets and professional shoes and handbags. “Due to time constraints and health concerns we regret that Dress for Success Austin can no longer accept clothing donations in boxes or bags. Shoes and handbags may be in boxes and bags. Clothing donations must be clean and on hangers”
Donations of size 14 and up are especially needed. See a list of donation needs below:
We currently have an urgent need for:
• full size shampoo and conditioner
• black purses
• plus size suits
• professional blouses (suitable under suit jackets) in sizes 18 and up
• like-new black shoes in all sizes (especially wide widths)
• new bras all (especially larger) sizes
• new cosmetics: neutral color lipsticks, blush and eye shadow; black
mascara and eyeliner; hair conditioner
Always Accepted
New or Like-New:
• Skirt suits and pants suits
• Separates that can be used to form suits (pants, skirts, jackets)
• Blouses and shells that can be worn under suit jackets
• Dress shoes (flats, pumps and heels)
• Professional leather handbags (especially black and brown)
• Interview-appropriate jewelry
• Scarves
New and Unopened:
• Undergarments
• Hosiery
• Cosmetics
• Toiletries
Not Accepted
• Sweaters, coats and winter suits and separates
• Khakis and capris
• Anything denim
• Printed dresses and skirts
• Sleeveless dresses (unless accompanied with a matching suit jacket)
• Stained, soiled or heavily wrinkled items, or items in need of mending
• Scuffed or damaged shoes
• Outdated styles (jackets and blouses with bulky shoulder pads, for example)
• Casual wear
• Formal wear
